Plan, coordinate and direct activities concerning maintenance of facility equipment and machinery in order to optimize efficiency/productivity and meet group and regulatory standards within budgetary guidelines. Plan, coordinate and direct capital equipment project management, facility improvement and utility management. Ensure proper levels of maintenance parts and supplies are maintained at all times.

Regulatory Requirements

Ensure the safety incident rate reduction meets plant standards.

Meet maintenance requirements for sanitation standards.

Compliance with all engineering related regulations.

Participate in HACCP program as necessary.

Capex (Capital Expenditures)

Prepare the plant's capital plan in a timely and efficient manner, with a written synopsis of each capex that includes an accurate description of project scope.

Prepare and maintain an accurate forecast of capital spending.

Submit complete and properly justified capexes with sufficient lead-time to ensure project spending commences on schedule.

Oversee the execution of capital projects to ensure they are completed on time, within budget and deliver the expected results (including impact on on-going operations).

Perform a thorough audit of major capital projects after implementation to ensure they delivered the expected benefits.

Provide effective training in a timely manner to personnel on new or revised processes or equipment resulting from capexes.

Anticipate, identify, mitigate and control the environmental, health and safety impacts of new or revised processes or equipment resulting from capexes.

Provide the Accounting Department with the necessary information, without, within one month of project completion, to ensure that all items are properly capitalized.

Process Improvements

Develop and implement systems to continuously improve product and process consistency and to identify and eliminate deviations from operating standards.

Institute, manage and lead a continuous improvement process that consistently reduces cost and increases process efficiency and plant production capacity.

Operations Control

Ensure that all plant utilities operate efficiently, within budget, in regulatory compliance, and provide the levels of services required by the Production Departments.

Asset Management and Maintenance

Institute and oversee maintenance programs that preserve asset life, ensure maximum equipment availability and capacity, and that do not interfere with production.

Institute and oversee a system to ensure that all vital records (e.g., operating manuals and service records) on plant equipment are complete and up-to-date.

Identify processes/equipment that are under-performing or limiting production, perform root cause analyses and implement appropriate preventive/corrective actions to maximize equipment availability and efficiency.

Demonstrate year over year improvements in through-put, equipment availability and downtime

Complete repairs and improvements in a cost effective manner.

Spend within budgetary constraints.

Procure parts & services at the best quality and price.

Code invoices so that material is charged to the correct account.

Identify critical spares and maintain appropriate levels of parts inventory.



Utilize effective asset maintenance processes such as PM schedules and completion tracking, corrective work orders, root cause failure analysis, and overhauls to maximize equipment performance.

Effectively maintain the CMMS system to ensure functionality and utilization across the site.


Provides leadership and direction to the maintenance operations of the Plant.

Assesses production capabilities of the plant and equipment and make recommendations in order to maintain pace with demand and growth.

Customer Requirements

Train, coordinate and communicate with production and other departments as needed.

Provide regular work order status and scheduling reports.

Coordinate emergency repairs with other departments as needed

Technical Support

Provide troubleshooting, diagnostic and analytical support to plant personnel as needed.

Ensure safe, reliable & proper utilization & operation of equipment.

Determine root cause of chronic problems to reduce downtime.

Find and propose solutions to improving the plant.

Quality Control

Works with the Quality Control Department to eliminate possible contamination and improve product quality focus at all levels of the operation.

Responsibility for food safety, food defense and food quality.


Partners closely with Health & Safety Department to eliminate all hazards and to develop a Health & Safety Focus at all levels of the operation.

Supports and Drives initiatives for the Target Zero Program for the site.

Provide safety training and signoff to external maintenance contractors.

Conduct risk assessments.

High school diploma.

5-7 years of experience in a production environment,(food manufacturing) preferred

Parts ordering and cost control and budgetary experience.

Good oral and communication skills, developed coaching and training skills.

Journeyman Trade Certificate or higher.

Advanced mechanical skills, prioritization, analytical skills, and problem solving skills.

Food manufacturing experience.

Basic welding skills, plumbing and electrical skills.

Familiar with building, warehouse and forklift maintenance.

Experience utilizing a CMMS software system

Able to read and write English.

Project management experience.

Experience on metal working, metal lathe, mill and other metal working equipment.

Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's)

Food Safety/HACCP training.

Basic computer skills, word processing, spreadsheet, project management, and drafting software.

Understanding of PLC and computer programing.

Project and contractor management experience, capital cost estimating and project scheduling.
